Does anyone know turn signal indicator's connection at RC27?
« on: February 15, 2021, 05:27:37 AM »
When I tried to replace ordinary lamp with LED at Honda NX650, it did not work with IC flasher relay.
Because NX650 turn signal indicator socket has reverse connection. It means side is + and bottom is -.

Ordinary light does not matter it. But LED has polarity. It matters.

As I understand it, when going LED,  the indicator/dashboard light needs 2 diodes to prevent acting as alarm lights, with all 4 lights flashing.

Regarding dashboard back lights, I already replaced those with LEDs. I did not need diodes.
But I did not replace speed warning indicator. Because all socket type of dashboard is T10 or T5. So we need to test polarity.

However, socket type of the turn signal indicators is S10. The socket itself has polarity.
I have new IC type compatible flasher relay for Mituba FR-3303. So I don't need extra components other than replacement LEDs.

Is that correct?

Why do we need diodes?

What did happen exactly when you placed those LED's? No blinking at all, or all 4 blinking, or constant lighting?
What I meant with those 2 extra diodes you can see in the bottom of the picture, this construction is meant for bikes with just 1 indicator light in the dashboard, which fitted with LED without diodes will always light 4 lights...

As I wrote at prior post, I replaced all dashboard lights except for speed warning light. Because speed warning light needs testing at 95km/H for knowing its polarity.  But all other lights in dashboard were replaced with LEDs. I don't have any problem. Just coloring difference.

What I am asking is, turn signal lights at front and rear, not indicators in dashboard.

I think we have a communication problem, I do not really understand what you are asking.

Concerning the speed warning light I can't help you anyway, only bikes for the Japanese Domestic Market have such a light.
But like I wrote before, when the direction signal lights are replaced by LED's, and there is only one signal indicator light in the dashboard, there can be a problem, it can happen that all 4 indicators light up when only one direction (=2 lights) is wanted.

More than four years ago,I replaced all lights in dashboard with LEDs except for speed warning. I don't have any problem at dashboard.

I did not replace turn signal lights at front and rear. My RC27 still has OE old plain bulbs.

I have a plan to replace turn signal lights with LEDs. Not lights in the dashboards.

Usually turn signal light has ba15s type socket. Socket has asynmetric pole layout. You can not try 2way polarity test, like T10 or T5 socket.

At NX650, I found Honda's original wire connection is reverse. Therefore, I had to modify cable connection for ba15s socket.

What I am asking is, Does anyone know RC27 ba15s socket wire connection is normal or reverse? I think bottom= + and side = - is normal config.

Please see attached image for ba15s.

LED units does draw enough power for the indicator unit to operate. It uses heat to switch on and off. It needs more than 40 watts to be passing through it work. The more watts that pass through it , the faster in will flash. To be honest, there is no gain using LED over bulbs, as they go on and off just the same.
