every pc has a battery small as may be to store date and time and some other settings :)

Fooling around with channels might do the trick although it doesnt explain why bianca's receiver has no problem with it.
there is difference in quality with receivers, also a receiver might be malfunctioning.
the siemens you bought was recommended cause thats what your isp understands and can support, wireless protocols are standard so you can basically use any receiver.
there are a lot of brands among receivers. Linksys is a good brand for instance.

Not so much a case of surviving as not having any choice

changing channels didn't seem to work very well and C's right Bianca's receiver is built in :(

get a better receiver G, Linksys USB 54 Range is a good one.
